Hillary is one of eight candidates running for the Democratic party nomination for the 2008 Presidential election. It is estimated that the candidates will have to raise $100 million each this year to stay in the race. Individual donors are allowed to give up to $2300 to each candidate for the primaries and another $2300 for the general election. The democrat party will hold primaries and caucuses between Jan-June 2008. Iowa is the first state to hold a caucus, followed by a primary in New Hampshire. Both states are small and have few votes, but are important as a win in these early states, will carry momentum for the rest of the elections and is critical in raising money for the campaign. Feb-5 is the most important date in the elections, as almost 20 states with half the U.S. population vote on this day. It is possible to win the party nomination by this date.

Election to elect the 44th President will take place on Nov 4th, 2008. The President of the United States is elected by the Electoral College and not directly by the population. Each state is assigned electoral votes by population, every state will have at least the same number of electoral votes as they have representatives in Congress, therefore no state will have less than 3 votes. A candidate with the majority of votes in a state, wins all the electoral votes of that state. The 2008 presidential election will be the most open election since 1928, both incumbent President and vice-President, cannot or is not seeking re-election. The 2008 race will also be the most expensive in history, including the primaries, candidates would have raised and spent over $1 billion.
