Bill Clinton to join Obama

NEW YORK -- Barack Obama revealed Wednesday that former President Clinton will campaign for him in the weeks leading up to election day.

Relations between the pair became testy during the primaries, when Obama was challenging Clinton's spouse, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, for the presidential nomination. Obama and the former president didn't speak for nearly a month after the campaign ended.

But they have made peace and the former president has offered to do whatever he can to help.

"There's nobody smarter in politics," Obama said on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman," scheduled to air Wednesday night. "And he is going to be campaigning for us over the next eight weeks, which I'm thrilled by."

Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna said the former president would campaign for Obama at a yet-to-be announced site in Florida on Sept. 29, with more events to follow.
